SCENT OF A WOMAN

The choice of perfume says much about its wearer. Musk notes are sexy and exotic while floral notes are a give-away for romantics. From mythos to reality. From stars and style icons of the past to today’s women that influence their generation. Lets see which scent each adore!

JACKIE O.

The eternal style icon Jackie O. wore the classic Joy by Jean Patou.  No surprise for a woman with such exquisite taste to opt for a scent known for years as the most expensive perfume in the world. For just one ounce of the heavily floral scent, more than 10,000 jasmine flowers and 28 dozen roses are required.

MARILYN MONROE

No doubt the most famous love story between a star and a fragrance is between Marilyn Monroe and Chanel Nr.5 , since the legendary Hollywood diva famously said that she wore Chanel No. 5 to bed (and nothing else).  But it wasn’t her only favorite. She was also a big fan of Rose Geranium by Floris that today only exists as a bath essence.

RITA HAYWORTH

Another famous Hollywood Goddess,  Rita Hayworth, was a fan of one of the most famous perfumes ever made,  the oriental fragrance Shalimar by Guerlain created in 1925 by Jacques Guerlain. Until date this utterly sexy fragrance is one of the French Maison’s best sellers.

GRACE KELLY

Beautiful and stylish Hollywood star turned royal, Grace Kelly’s signature fragrance was Fleurissimo by Creed since her wedding day in 1956. The fragrance was especially commissioned for the occasion by her husband Prince Rainier to match her wedding bouquet.

From the past to today. We asked some of our region’s favorite stars, style  icons and influencers to share their favorite fragrance with us.

YOUSSRA

The Egyptian film diva and judge on Project Runway Middle East has been pretty secretive about her favorite scent. All we can reveal is that for the past 30 years she has been wearing this one timeless and elegant fragrance that comes out straight from Hollywood and that includes notes of lavender, jasmine, musk and sandalwood.

MONA ZAKI

A star both on the silver screen and as a UNICEF Egypt Ambassador alongside her husband Ahmed Helmy, Mona Zaki confessed she likes to change between four different perfumes according to her mood. Except for the Michael Kors Signature scent, Marfa by Memo Paris, Ilha do Mel by Memo Paris and Tam Dao by Diptyque might not be your regular picks, but they all have one thing in common. They are unisex fragrances with floral top notes.

LARA SCANDAR

Since 2009 the stylish Egyptian-Lebanese singer has been wearing only one scent: Vanille Bourbon by Yves Rocher a vanilla, powdery and sweet Eau de Toilette.

“ I’ve always loved softer scents and have always been a fan of more naturally inspired ones like vanilla, coconut, cinnamon. It’s funny because now people tell me that every time they smell a similar scent they think of me. So I guess people got as used to it on me as I did.”

DEENA AL JUHANI ABDULAZIZ

The Saudi style icon spotted front-row at major fashion weeks extends her allure and style to her scent, with a mixture of four fragrances: Portrait of a Lady and Dans tes Bras, both by Frederic Malle, White Suede by Tom Ford and Calèche by Hermès. We wouldn’t be surprised if the multi-talented princess would be the next “nose” for a leading perfume house!

“ I have always mixed my perfumes as long as I remember. But for the last 10 years I have mixed those four together each time. “

DANA AL KHALIFA

The stylish Bahraini royal, who has made a name in the international fashion and luxury world as “The Overdressed” and a jewelry curator is loyal to a scent by Lorenzo Villoresi called Dilmune, which coincidentally is also the name of an ancient civilization in the modern day Bahrain.

“ I love it and started to wear it after I smelled it on my late grandfather who was the epitome of elegance and grace, a truly humble royal who will never be repeated”.

REEM ABOU SAMRA

The Syrian Dubai based business woman whose Instagram followers have turned her into a social media star likes changing her perfumes, as long as they are floral  and light. No surprise that the beauty industry expert likes to discover what’s new in the market.  Yet she will always go back to her favorites that include the classics:  Holy Peony by Christian Dior, Gardenia by Chanel and Elie Saab The Perfume.
